STOP WALMART VENTURA SUPERSTORE COALITION

BALLOT INITIATIVE

On November 3rd . . . VOTE YES on
MEASURE C

Our Superstore initiative appears on the city’s November 3rd ballot as Measure C.  Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who helped us collect almost 13,000 signatures to qualify this citizens’ initiative.

When passed by Ventura voters, this new city ordinance will:

  • Prohibit stores larger than 90,000 square feet from selling groceries or other nontaxable items on more than 3% of floor space – the kind of store that Wal-Mart builds.
  • Prohibit “piece-mealing”.  Wal-Mart won’t be able to open a smaller store and expand it later on.
  • Measure C WILL NOT prevent a Best Buy or IKEA or any large store we need in Ventura.

The signature verification is complete, and the Ventura anti-Wal-Mart Super Store initiative has qualified for the November 2009 city election, but has NOT triggered a costly special election, as some had feared.

Thanks to all of you
for your part in this great showing of public will.  We made quite a statement with 8300 valid signatures - more than any one candidate got in the last city council election!
