Communities across the country have been successful in protecting themselves from the onslaught of Wal-Mart, but only when they unite and work together. The most difficult part of this fight will be convincing our elected officials that we don't want Wal-Mart in Ventura, especially in what is already the most congested corridor in town.

You can help immediately by taking a few small steps that will have a giant effect on the outcome of this fight. Here are six easy steps:

2) Attend a public meeting. It is very important that we maintain a strong and visible presence in opposition to this proposed Wal-Mart.

3) Tell your family/friends/neighbors. Ask them to come to this site and sign up as well. There is great power in numbers so pledge to bring 5 people to the next public meeting.

4) Show your opposition by placing a sign on your lawn or in the window of your store.

5) Support your local business. Ask if they oppose the Wal-Mart, if they do ask them to put a sign up. If you see a business with a sign in the window, make an extra effort to patronize that business. Remember, Wal-Mart destroys local business; they need your help as much as anyone.

6) Contact your elected officials. Tell them you don't want Wal-Mart on Victoria Avenue, period.

E-mail, call and/or write the City Council and tell them you want Wal-Mart stopped once and for all!
